Priorities In a Creative’s Life

Here we are in the middle of fall, the beginning of November. The priorities in a creative’s life never go to sleep and they must be kept in mind all the time! Here there are four top priorities that a creative must consider at all times, especially when winter is about to knock at our doors!

1. Check up your progress and your art

Whether it’s writing fiction or non-fiction, drawing a portrait, sculpting a body, or perfecting your dance moves, make sure to take some time to check up on how your work is functioning. Do you see any changes with the goals you were trying to reach when you started your journey with your latest piece? Is there a deadline to be mindful of or can you afford to be flexible around it? Can you put more energy into this piece or change the shift? These may be uncomfortable questions, especially if there are any dates to respect (if there are any clients relying on our work), but necessary to keep a sustainable flow. Being disciplined and building a creative life requires mental structure.

2. Time to revaluate your connections

When was the last time you connected with that fellow artist you met at a function this past summer? Are you really going to work with that person who you heard of and your friend suggested getting in touch with? Is your favorite influencer or mentor still pursuing a path that is in alignment with your principles? Every three-four months there must be some sort of "cleanse”, where you remove unnecessary connections and establish new ones where you can see your own values reflected.

3. Do What You Need To Do

You read that right. Do what you need to do in the present moment that makes you feel right about a project you’re embarking on. Be selfish with your time, don’t be afraid to say “no”, and ask for more when the occasion presents itself. If you set a high standard for yourself, people will treat you differently and with the tones you set for yourself.

4. Seasonal Depression is here, but you can prevent it!

Leaving summer can be harsh for some of us dealing with seasonal depression, iron and vitamin d deficiencies, and similar health conditions. You are not alone, since a lot of us suffer from seasonal depression. For this reason, The Curly Flower has created a holistic space, where the community can enjoy soothing visuals as well as refreshing content. garden of curls embodies the Arcadia of many of us creatives, especially those with African, Caribbean, South-East Asian, South-Pacific, or Meditterean roots. Idyllic places can differ from each other based on individuals’ stories and heritages. It is important to cut out some time during the day to reconnect with visuals and sounds that are close to our hearts, in order to stay rooted and connected with our inner selves and practice calm. Make sure to check garden of curls to see the pleasing aesthetics to soften your sight in your blue days, as well as a digital space where you can learn about holistic health, lifestyle, philosophy, and eco-friendly living.
